Executive Director

Mrs. Girija Karekal is originally from Bangalore, India and is a resident of Brisbane, Australia for a very long time. She has offered key services to the Basava Samiti of Australasia Inc, Brisbane Branch since its inception in 2005, served as the Joint Secretary during the 7th International Sharana Samskruti Sammelana (2016) and as the president in 2020-21 during which she was integral in integrating communities in the region to be one of the key founder of the Basava Samiti of Asia Pacific Ltd.

Girija is passionate about promoting, protecting and preserving integrity and values in the society. As an excellent communicator, she inspires, leads and motivates those around her through her authentic and engaging leadership. In her professional life, she designs solutions to complex business problems and through robust strategies and roadmaps that enables strategic transformation.

She strives to adopt and promote Guru Basava’s vachana ಹಿಡಿದುದ ಬಿಡದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಚಾಚುವ, ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ನಡು ನೀರಲ್ಲಿ, ಎದ್ದುವ wherein we need to believe in ourselves and pursue our objective until its execution. Girija has introduced many highly engaging and innovative programs which have increased integration of culturally diverse groups to  engage and participate through mentoring and cultural activities.

Since the birth of this Charity, she has led the establishment of  several charitable service streams for uplifting the society and anchored the inaugural convention in Auckland, 2023. 

Director

Dr. Lohith Shivateja originally from Tumkur, India lives in Perth. As a highly qualified medical practitioner he has offered his services across several countries including India, United Kingdom.

He is passionate about healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, and improving direct healthcare delivery in the Indian subcontinent. He leads this Charity with kindness bringing in togetherness and clarity.

Director

Mr. Linden May, lives in Brisbane and is known for his digital engagement and enablement skills serving several clients in the Asia Pacific region in the ICT sector. He is passionate about serving the society and is always read to step up.

Linden has offered unparallel selfless service to the charity in the design and delivery of the public web front bringing creativity and managing related subject matter experts to enhance user experience and increase public engagement. He has introduced several advanced tools and techniques to manage a large scale charity with great potential to expand. 

Mr. May is key in promoting the social progression of values and skills in the society.    

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Christian Popovic is from Melbourne. He is a qualified Historian, Mathematician and Physicist and can speak in at least 8 languages including Hindi. He brings together his rich experience and exposure while working with Australian federal government.

He brings a lot of experience working with the ATO, Political leaders, governance, administration, legislations etc.

He also shares the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 as part of the ICAN Nuclear Campaign. He is a man of many strengths with a multi-dimensional personality in a range of topics. He was able to complete a five and a half double degree in Arts and Science within just three years. Mr. Popovic is impressed by the Guru Basava philosophy’s simplicity, equality and empowerment. He has commenced to learn a few vachanas and in the shortest time has gained a lot of knowledge about Guru Basava and the historical implications.
