The Judging Panel
Our judging panel is composed of a team of distinguished experts from the fields of Vachana literature, cultural studies, and community leadership. This diverse panel of judges brings unique perspectives to ensure each submission is appreciated for its cultural resonance and thoughtful translation of values. With backgrounds spanning various disciplines, the judges are dedicated to recognizing authentic reflections that truly embody the spirit of compassion, justice, and integrity.
The Living with Values Journal Writing Competition
The Journal Writing Competition is an inspiring, first-of-its-kind global event organised by the Basava Samiti Asia Pacific (BSAPAC). This competition encourages participants from all backgrounds, ages, and communities to engage deeply with five core value themes: Respect, Determination, Justice, Compassion, and Honesty. Through a unique 15-day journaling journey, each participant selects a value theme, dedicating daily reflections to real-life applications of that value, fostering personal growth and insight.
Background and Mission
The competition is inspired by Vachana Jeevana, a revered festival of Vachanas, celebrating engagement and appreciation of timeless teachings. This competition is designed to foster self-introspection, inspired by the introspective values found in Guru Basava’s philosophy, aligning with BSAPAC’s objectives of promoting, aligning, and protecting values in society. BSAPAC extends Vachana Jeevana into a modern context by encouraging individual reflection on one’s role in a values-driven society.
All proceeds from the entry fees go towards supporting BSAPAC’s mission to promote such initiatives further and foster a community aligned with values of empathy, integrity, and resilience.
Key Details of the Competition
Entry Fee: $10 AUD + Service Fee for only 1 theme that you choose
Eligibility: Open to participants of all ages, ethnicities, and genders
Last Date to Register: 27th January 2025
Competition Start Date: 01 February 2025
Duration: 20-day journal with daily entries focusing on a single value theme from the 01 February to the 05th of March
Submission Format: Digital submission via email, it can include images, videos and text
Submission Journal: The entries can be in English, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Chinese and Persian and can be provided with a suitable translation. It must not exceed 2000 words. BSAPAC have access to translators who will assist with the messaging as required.
Submission Deadline: 15th March 2025
Entries are welcome: from all ages, genders and all abilities
Each entry should be submitted in a consolidated document that meets the word count requirements and adheres to the competition’s format guidelines.

First Screening: Conducted in person or online across Australia and New Zealand chapters on 15th March 2025
Winners Announced: 3rd May 2025 at the 2nd Asia Pacific Convention 2025
