Basava Samiti Asia Pacific | Our mission, chapters and events

Basava Samiti of Asia Pacific Ltd, Adelaide Chapter (BSAPAC Adelaide)

Welcome

Our Adelaide Chapter provides a welcoming and inclusive platform for members, families and the wider community to connect, learn and participate in activities inspired by Vachana philosophy, community service, literature, culture and social values. Through our programs and initiatives, we encourage meaningful engagement, lifelong learning, volunteerism and the practical adoption of Basava’s principles in everyday life.

The Chapter also provides opportunities to celebrate our shared heritage, encourage the younger generation to learn about Vachana literature and philosophy, support community integration, and contribute to a value-driven and compassionate society.

Whether you are a long-standing member, a new participant or simply interested in learning more about Guru Basava and the Vachana tradition, we warmly invite you to connect with the Adelaide Chapter and become part of our journey of service, learning and community.

Members hold literature and poetry in high regard, viewing them as essential means of expressing spiritual beliefs and cultural identity. Basava’s own teachings and vachanas emphasize devotion, equality, and the pursuit of knowledge, which have inspired generations of poets and writers within the community. Literature and poetry are often seen as powerful tools for conveying philosophical concepts and moral values, promoting social justice and personal introspection. Overall, there is a strong appreciation for literary expressions that align with Basava’s ethical principles.

In July 2021, Mr. Shadakshari Adavayyanamath was sworn in as the inaugural president of the Basava Samiti of Asia Pacific Ltd, Adelaide Chapter as well as participating in the Inaugural First Basava Convention 2023, in Auckland, New Zealand. Following the retirement of Mr. Shadakshri, Mr. Tejaswi Karekal was sworn in as the President of the Basava Samiti of Asia Pacific Ltd, Adelaide Chapter.

Through Vachana literature, poetry, reading, discussion and cultural programs, the Chapter encourages members and the wider community to explore these timeless ideas and connect them with contemporary life. These literary expressions provide an opportunity to reflect on ethical living, social justice, human dignity and the responsibility we have towards one another.

Our initiatives aim not only to preserve this rich literary heritage, but also to make the Vachana philosophy accessible, relevant and meaningful to future generations, supporting our vision of an inclusive, value-driven and enlightened society.

Adelaide is renowned for its vibrant literary scene. The city hosts several major literary events, including the Adelaide Writers’ Week, one of Australia’s oldest and most prestigious literary festivals. This event draws acclaimed authors, poets, and readers from around the globe for discussions, readings, and workshops. The festival is part of the broader Adelaide Festival, creating a lively atmosphere that embraces storytelling and the exchange of ideas across genres.
